If any of the flag bearers deserves commendation from Ghanaians, then “papa sofo” will definitely come to mind.
When he made his intentions known to the Nation, a section of Ghanaians ridiculed him; with the premise that it’s out of place, considering his position as a renowned man of God.
But guys, this man proved beyond a reasonable doubt that what an affirmed politician can do, an ordinary citizen behind the pulpit can equally do.
Yes, out of the 1.40 percent-plus amassed by the smaller parties within Ghana, the GUM flag bearer pulled close to one percent, outshining the likes of CPP and contemporaries.
One will attest to the fact that members of GUM did an extreme job, liaising with the grassroots, putting up Party structures, forming an executive base, and deciding on parliamentary aspirants; just within four years.
As the results kept cropping in, we have seen tremendous efforts paying off eventually.
GUM has Indeed surprised Ghanaians unlike the CPP party and contemporaries, who couldn’t “shock even a mosquito”.
Having mentioned this, I believe in an effort to strengthen our democratic dispensation, well structured political parties need to step up their game, and not gather momentum only when we’re close to electioneering moments.
An opposition party is equally relevant, just like the Incumbent.
In light of this, we must give them the best of attention as a Nation seeking to strengthen our democracy.
Opposition as we all know keeps the incumbent in checks, and as such should not be envisaged to be ‘in bed’ with the incumbent unless perhaps it’s for the sake of National interest.
Moving forward, I personally believe the Convention People’s Party (CPP) with awesome historical precedence, needs a reawakening.
This is a party founded by Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, whose name can never be erased from our history books.
CPP just like the GUM party, have a potential to excel in subsequent elections devoid of internal issues and petty political outburst, as we all witnessed during the days of Papa Kwesi Nduom and the siblings of the late Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, which seems to have created divisions within the party with some party faithful making a paradigm shift into the NPP party and NDC respectively.
Fellow Ghanaians, we have all indeed proven our level of discernment when it comes to politics in this country, and it’s gone a long way to reflect in the aftermath results.
Giants have a fallen and new faces have emerged, but it is our duty to keep them in checks without traits of partisanship; if Indeed we must make headway as a sovereign Nation.
Perhaps the days of winner takes all, should also be made a thing of the past, if we must forge ahead in unity.
Social intervention should have a tremendous impact on the populace, irrespective of political affiliations.
Congrats to all the flag bearers of the different political divides.
But, let’s give a standing ovation to this man, called Osofo Kyireabosom, he’s given us a different school of thought coupled with great lessons, with respect to the elections 2020.
Salutes to every Voter!
God bless our homeland Ghana!
It is well!
